A few photos I snapped while in Myrtle Beach



Terrific looking Par 3 at Tidewater… I hit my gorgeous tee shot right into the front bunker. My first sand shot left me… right back in the bunker, up against a 1-2 foot high lip! Triple bogey baby.


Amazing Par 3, again at Tidewater. No where to go but on the green. See that tree on the left? I didn’t and hit my tee shot smack against it. Drop and three putt for what else… triple bogey.


Nice fairway at Myrtlewood Pine Hills. The course was fun to play! Lots of challenging holes. Apparently, very challenging as I shot a 106.

Ahhhh, sunset means time to relax and drink up.

I absolutely love golfing on vacation. For the first time ever, I played a round during a family break - our first visit to Myrtle Beach. We headed down on one of those Marriott special preview deals (more on that later) and I got a free round as part of the package.

I got up early and hit a bucket of balls in the morning mist before teeing off with 3 strangers - a guy from VA and a father/daughter from Boston. The girl was probably 16 or so, and shouldn’t have been on the course. She was a new player and could barely swing the club.

No matter! I was golfing on vacation and had an amazing time. I shot a 103, but the round could have easily been 6 shots better - 2 chunks and 3 triple bogeys really hurt bad. But again - no matter - I was totally relaxed and had a terrific time.

The course was nice, not too hard and had a few pretty difficult par 3 holes.

As for the Marriott weekend - we got 4 days/3 nights for $199 plus the golf and $50 in “Marriott bucks.” We sat through a 90 minute sales pitch and guess what - we actually bought a timeshare!

This means 2 things:

1. More golf on vacation for me - yes!!

While in Ireland on vacation, I managed to get in a round at Ballyheighe Castle, a wonderful 9 hole course just north of Tralee. It was a bit cloudy and it rained (of course!) for a few minutes. I played with my brother-in-law. To be honest, this was the most amazing course I’ve ever been on (not that I’ve been on too many great ones).

The entire course was surrounded by castle ruins - the 8th and 9th were out front, overlooking Tralee Bay to the South, and the castle gate to the North.

I shot a 54 (9 holes) and played decently given:

1. How bad I am at golf
2. The fact that we rented some horrendous clubs (I wish I could blame them) - we had a frayed 5 wood, a very old 3 wood and a collection of irons including a 3, 4, 5 (super tiny), 3 6’s, one lefty 7, 2 wedges and a putter.
   
3. I didn’t have my golf shoes (like that matters)
